Fall Sports Is Here — It's Soccer Season!
The 2026 Southwest Missouri high school boys soccer season is gearing up with teams finalizing their rosters and schedules ahead of the first official jamborees and matches later this August. Local powerhouses and conference rivals are focused on reloading after losing substantial senior talent to graduation.
Key Team Previews & Updates
- Carl Junction: Coming off a Class 3 District 6 championship title under Coach Nick Loewen, the Bulldogs face a major rebuilding effort after graduating many core contributors. Their 2026 season officially opens on August 28 at the S-C Shootout in Sedalia against Harrisonville.
- Carthage: The Tigers look dangerous this season with the return of senior Henry Laytham, an elite Class 4 first-team all-state pick and the reigning Class 4 District 6 Defensive Player of the Year. Laytham is one of the most decorated returning players in the region.
- Joplin: Looking to bounce back from an 8–14 record last year, the Eagles are anchored by talented junior goalkeeper Gage Stovern, who enters his third year as a varsity starter. Joplin hosts a jamboree on August 25 before traveling to Pittsburg, Kansas, on September 1.
- Springfield Central: Following news that Central paused its varsity football season, athletic directors are giving other sports the spotlight. The Bulldogs are working to move a high-profile home soccer match to a Friday night under the lights for homecoming, and will also square off against Hillcrest on September 16 at Missouri State University following a collegiate match.
- Webb City: The Cardinals are restructuring after losing multiple star players, including former Offensive Player of the Year Luis Puerto-Flores and all-district goalkeeper Trystan Smith. How quickly they reload will define their season.
- McDonald County: Senior Reyes Mendoza, an all-state second-team honor recipient, will lead the Mustangs as they navigate roster changes and look to make noise in their district.
